PostHeaderIcon News feeds

I have added a few new things to SSUG.org.

At the bottom of the page you will see two news feeds. One comes from the ShopSmith Owners site. It will have the latest news items from that site.

The other is a list of Hands OnLine videos that are available on blip.tv.

I hope you all find these news feeds useful.

PostHeaderIcon New Forum Features

Hello everyone!

I would like to let you all know that I have added some new features to to fourms.

File Uploads -- you can now attach files to a forum. There have been server users ask specifily about uploading video but you can upload zip files as well as several of the most common web video formats.

Image attachements -- you can now attache images directly to your forum posts.

There are size limits(dimension and file size). As long as this feature is not abused and there is server space and bandwidth these features will remain in place. All video, files, or images that are deemed copyrighted or inappropriate will be removed.

PostHeaderIcon Springtime at SSUG

Hey!

It's the end of March and where I'm sitting, March is looking to leave pretty much like it arrived, like a lion. My woodshop is mostly dry and mostly warm, and sadly underused right now. I'm hoping that's about to change so that I can get some woodworking done.

The Admin Team has good news. The site is in good shape for the rest of the year. We're working behind the scenes to better protect the site from all sorts of things that either have or could go wrong. It's good to have a plan, right? And it's good to work that plan.

What sorts of woodworking are on your plate right now? Have you considered sharing what you do with the rest of the SSUG community? What you are doing just might be the point of inspiration needed to get a fellow SS user off the couch, away from the 'puter, and next to that wonderful machine that we all hold so dear.

Never posted on SSUG? This would be a good time, especially this weekend when a lot of the country is going to be less than hospitable for being outside. Talk to us! Tell us who you are and what you're doing in the way of woodwork. My own "schtick" right now has been turning wooden pens for the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan through the Freedom Pen Project. That and making maple rattles for the profusion of youngsters being born into my work and church communities. Lots of fun!

Stay safe, make lots of sawdust, and share about the results!

PostHeaderIcon SSUG.org and 2009

Greetings, Shopsmith friends,

Yes, that email was from the Admin Team, just to let everyone know "the state of the community", and to kind of borrow Kennedy's words about not only asking what SSUG.org can do for you, but what you can do for SSUG.org.

It is never easy, but most of us know that old biblical adage that you have not because you ask not. The purpose of the email was to let the family know what it takes to run the community each year, and to give the family an opportunity to lend some real support.

The contact info in the email gives you the ability and the means to help. If you're reading this and you did not get the email, contact Dylan, Ron, or Dean, your erstwhile admins, and we'll see to it that you get a copy. We'll also see to it that we get  your correct email address into the database.

Speedy responses are welcome and encouraged. Don't have to be large, but speedy is good. Wink

PostHeaderIcon Recent Downtime and The New Look

Well, yes the site has been missing for a week. It decided that it didn't like its current arrangement and decided to do everything in its power to protest. Surprised

Well at least that's the way I felt after a string of errors, failures, and site corruption. Wow, this is sounding like the Illinois governor! I won't bore you all with the technical details, but it was a nightmare. So now the site has been rebuilt, better systems in place, and thus far ALL of the content should be there. I am still working on the gallery and I hope to have the images back in there soon. The forum should have all postings and the archive, all of its documents. I will also be changing the look and getting logos and colors up, but that takes longer and i wanted to get the data back and the site back up ASAP.

I apologize for the site's absence and hopefully we won't have to do this again.
